QUALIFICATION DESCRIPTION

This qualification has been developed for the Intermediate Level Apprenticeship in Horticulture England framework and is designed for learners who are either pursuing a career in horticulture or who wish to start one. It develops practical skills, promotes sound working practices, and provides essential industry knowledge to help learners to progress into higher levels of learning or into sustainable employment in the horticulture sector. Learners will complete this qualification with a concrete understanding of the following:

  • How to maintain health, safety and security in the workplace
  • How to maintain and develop personal performance and build effective working relationships with others
  • How to prepare ground for seeding and planting and establish plants or seeds in soil
  • The knowledge and skills required to identify and botanically name a range of plants using the correct terminology and format

Optional units include: Establish decorative amenity areas, Maintain equipment and machines, Collect and prepare propagation material, and more

PROGRESSION ROUTES: WHAT'S NEXT

Learners who complete this qualification can progress to the ABC Level 3 Diplomas in Work-Based Horticulture, to an Apprenticeship, into employment, more senior roles in current employment, or begin entrepreneurial activities such as starting ones own business.
